The goals of Invictus are anchored in the belief that we each have a say in determining how we live our lives. That being said, there are plenty of bad folks out there who would also like to have a say.
Personal safety is a right of all free people from all walks of life. Unfortunately, too many people put all of their faith in the government to provide that safety. The reality is that bad guys often have the upper hand, because they get to choose the time and place of aggression. Certainly they won't choose their time of attack to coincide with the presence of a police officer or armed guard. No, they choose to act when it's most advantageous to...them.
Am I anti-government? Absolutely not. Through your tax dollars, government has provided me a paycheck since I graduated from highschool. However, having spent almost 23 years in Law Enforcement, I recognize the folly of believing that a police officer will always be in the right place at the right time.
Personal safety begins with you, and if you're still reading, you already recognize your own personal responsibility when it comes to protecting yourself and others. What you must now ask is, "What am I going to do to improve my odds?"
In the next several posts, I will explore the necessity of training, and why repeated exercise is essential to not only surviving an attack, but thriving in spite of one.
Until then, keep your eyes up and ears open.
